Quarantine Diary

“Quarantine Diary” depicts Yesica Prado’s personal experience living in an RV in Berkeley. As a CatchLight Local Fellow at the San Francisco Public Press, Prado spent the past year examining the culture of vehicle living in San Francisco and Berkeley. Her reporting and photojournalism are featured in “Driving Home: Surviving the Housing Crisis,” which she produced for the San Francisco Public Press in collaboration with the Bay Area visual storytelling nonprofit CatchLight through its CatchLight Local Initiative. Occupy to Decolonize: The Mixed Tape

2021 marked the 10 year anniversary of the Occupy Movement that changed everyones’s life. Occupy/Decolonize Oakland set the movement’s militancy standard to a new high. Oscar Grant Plaza was ground zero for Oakland’s fight against the 1%, and unknown to most the folks who held down the protest tent city were the unhoused folks who lived at the plaza long before the movement came. Tho gentrifiers claiming to be anarchists invaded the city and took over the militant movement, the truth is the militancy, heart, demands, and fire behind Occupy/Decolonize Oakland came for the unhoused folks and housed BIPOC folks from Oakland. Thru archival footage, found videos, and interviews Occupy to Decolonize: The Mixed Tape uplifts the voices of The Town that were unsung and co-opted.
