Job Summary
The Living Room Outreach Worker will provide services towards staffing Village in Oakland’s info booth at Living Room Block Parties and Living Room spaces at community events. The Living Room Outreach Worker will engage with members of our unhoused community and housed neighbors to invite them to engage with the space and activities; inform them of resources and provisions available at the Living Room space; share the mission and vision of the Village in Oakland with community; inform them about the 2045 Oakland General Plan and the Deeply Rooted Collaborative; engage them in surveys and other means of data collecting for Oakland Deeply Rooted Collaborative. Outreach workers must commit to attending a mandatory training; regularly scheduled team meetings; and will work a full 8 hours shift for each Living Room Block Party and/or Living Room spaces at community events.

- Shows up to work on time
- If needs a ride to work, accepts the responsibility of contacting Executive Director no less than 24 hours prior to arrange transportation
Responsibilites prior to the day of event:
- Attend a mandatory, one time, 2 hour in person training session
- Attend mandatory Living Room Team meetings on Zoom as they are scheduled (1 – 2 times per month, and more if needed)
- Support coordinator in gathering materials and equipment needed for the day as needed
- Do one to two days of scheduled outreach in the neighborhood where the Living Room Block Party and/or Living Room space at community events will happen
Responsibilities for day
- Wear a Village in Oakland t-shirt to identity you as a member of the team
- Help with pick up/loading up and dropping off/unloading supplies for set up and production by time to be determined prior to event
- Work with team to set up Village in Oakland booth, signage, info tables, outreach materials, installations, and other activities before event starts
- Engage with the public at the Village in Oakland booth
- Communicate with public The Village in Oakland mission, vision, services and programs.
- Communicate with pubic how is and how they can become involved as a volunteer or as a client of the Village In Oakland
- Provide people who visit the info table with info about the General Plan Oakland 2045 and the Deeply Rooted Collaboration
- Encourage people who visit the info booth to fill out a Deeply Rooted Oakland Survey and support them if they need help filling it out/or Deeply Rooted Oakland interactive art activity and support then if they need help to participate
- If people come to you with questions you don’t have answers for them, or if people are looking for assistance for a specific issue they are facing, refer them to correct point people on our team
- Answer questions and engage in conversations with folks who come to the info table about homelessness and the affordable housing crisis; and environmental justice, global climate change, natural disasters, police, emergency services, and fire services.
- Encourage people to join our mailing list
- Provide folks with literature from the info table
- Share free materials and resources we offer at the info table including artworks, covid tests, hygiene kits, socks, backpacks, etc.
- Direct folks to get a free hot meal and herbal medicine at the appropriate stations
- Help with break down, clean up of Living Room
- Pack up and unload materials and equipment back to where they belong

- Education: School of the Hard Knocks
- Experience: Currently unhoused or formally unhoused
