Feed The People
Feed the People started in January 2016 when Needa Bee and her then 14 year-old daughter Joyous Efiya De Asis Miralle started sharing weekly hot meals to the two curbside communities in the Funktown neighborhood she had spent most of her life in, and the communities in the North Oakland neighborhood she had recently relocated to.
SOS – Sanitation Ona Streets
Adequate sanitation is hard to come by for unhoused folks. We believe access to sanitation is a human right. Because the local governments fall short of providing sanitation services to our curbside residents, we created SOS.
As of Fall 2022, we stopped providing portapotty and hand washing station services to curbside communities, as the City of Oakland’s human services said they would provide the facilities for this basic human need.
As of mid 2023, we are gearing up to start providing this service again as the City of Oakland has stopped providing this service to all communities that need it.
Housing & Dignity Building Team
Our Housing and Build Team is our most known program and the program that kicked off our organization. This team is a non-violent direct action team that builds emergency tiny homes, community kitchens, communal bathhouses, bicycle powered washing machines, and tiny homes on wheels at curbside communities thru out Oakland.
Soul Food Shack
Soul Food Shack is our mobile/pop-up apothecary that provides ancestral herbal medicines and alternative treatments that help unhoused residents manage anxiety, depression, stress, addiction and dependency.
First Responders Network
Whether it be the arson fires started by predators that plague encampments across Oakland, or domestic violence, or a mental health crisis, support to document or push back against an eviction of a curbside community — Our First Responders are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The GAS IT! Grant
The GAS IT! Grant brokers donations of vehicles between donors and unhoused volunteers of the Village in Oakland. It’s one of our systems of sweat equity we use with the Village in Oakland to make sure that our unhoused volunteers are taken care off. Personal, recreation and commercial vehicles are always in need by our dedicated to volunteers.
No Vacancy Ca/Hotels Not Graves/Streetcation
Hotel Voucher Program to give folks a few days of respite from the streets.
Our Work During The COVID19 Pandemic
During the pandemic, the work of Feed The People tripled in scope. We expanded distribution services to unhoused communities in Berkeley and San Francisco. And in Oakland we expanded services to housed senior citizens and families with children who are facing food scarcity during the pandemic.
